Remy’s latest CD ‘Memento’ got a brilliant review in the NRC last monday. It was written by Kasper Jansen:
“Last year, Remy van Kesteren (25) won the open American championship on the harp. On the photos for his new CDMemento, we see him flying through the air in a shimmering suit, doing stunts in mid-air, like Superman on the harp. After his third Dutch Harp Festival in Utrecht, the CD tours Spain and South America, with music by Villa-Lobos, De Falla, Iglesias en Rodrigo – the famous Concierto de Aranjuez. But Braziliera as well, by Frenchman Darius Milhaud, who was obsessed with jazz and cheerful exotic rhythms during the interbellum. And Cordoba and Curação Americano by Martin Fondse, specialist in jazz and improvisation.
Van Kesteren is a magical virtuoso, giving every note a color and nuance of its own. And he shows his mastery in timing and ensemble as well, with trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, the Mirovia Quartet and the vocalises by Nora Fischer. Atmosphere and temperament all round.”
